Taken from Wright's graphic design for a  (1927-1928) that was never published, this image is an abstract version of springtime rain. The lively combination of squares on a 45 degree angle and the repetitive pattern of circles at the intersections were possibly inspired by Japanese prints he collected. In addition to the repetitive diagonal pattern, two of the squares on the angle represent cages, each of which house an abstract bird shape. Hence, another adaptation of this design was titled The Canary, Bird in the Cage.
